Diabetes
Diabetes is a chronic medical condition characterized by high blood glucose (sugar) levels resulting from either the body’s inability to produce insulin (Type 1 diabetes) or the body’s ineffective use of insulin (Type 2 diabetes). Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that regulates blood glucose levels. Risk factors for diabetes include family history, obesity, physical inactivity, and poor diet. Symptoms may include frequent urination, thirst, fatigue, blurred vision, and slow-healing wounds. Treatment includes managing blood glucose levels through lifestyle changes, medication, and insulin therapy. Diabetes can lead to serious complications such as heart disease, kidney disease, nerve damage, and blindness.
